Born in 1985 in Yazd, Iram, Roqiye Tavakoli holds a BA in Cinema and a MA in Dramatic Literature from Sooreh University in Tehran. At Yazd Art and Culture University Roqiye was an instructor in addition to being the department head. A member of the Iranian Short Film Association, Roqiye is also a member of Directors Guild of Iranian Cinema. An accomplished and critically lauded filmmaker, she has participated in many international festivals as part of the selection committee and juror. She has made over 30 shorts and documentary films that won awards in over 50 local and international film festivals - such as: Armenia International Women's Film Festival Kin, Dubai Ibda Awards, Royesh Film Festival, Parvin Etesami Film Festival, movievally international film festival etc. Her feature credits include Mothering (2016) and Mehran (2019)..
